The Traubenfest/Grape Festival, the traditional harvest celebration, takes place every year on the third weekend in October in Meran/Merano and has been going on for almost 130 years.
It signals the end of the grape harvest and the wine growing and production which are a key sector in South Tyrol's economy are celebrated.
The high point of the event is the celebratory parade by numerous bands from the whole region which goes through Meran/Merano's town centre and is accompanied by carts which are decorated festively, such as with a giant grape or a crown made of apples.
Music plays throughout the whole town – but mainly on the terrace in front of the Kurhaus/Spa Rooms on the Passerpromenade which serves as the stage for numerous bands who present their best pieces there.
